UW-Marinette Offers Life-Changing Opportunity
UW-Marinette will be welcoming 10 new international students in August for the 2010-11 academic year, and is looking for families who are interested in opening their hearts and home to these students. Students are scheduled to arrive August 20 with their own spending money and health insurance.
Host families agree to: 1) Welcome their new son or daughter as a member of their family, 2) Help their student adapt to their family and to U.S. life and culture, 3) Provide a safe and loving home environment including a bed, a place to study, and three meals a day, 4) Attend orientation events, read preparation materials, and when necessary, maintain regular contact with the coordinators, 5) Understand policies and encourage their student to adhere to those policies, and 6) Familiarize their student with your community and its resources. Host families receive $175 per month as partial reimbursement of the expense of having a student in their home.
YFU and UW-Marinette support not only the students but their host families as well by preparing them for the hosting experience. A program handbook is provided that outlines policies and procedures and provides valuable information on what to expect. They will also be invited to orientation sessions prior to the students’ arrival and throughout the year to ensure that every member of the family gets the most out of the experience. In addition, the host families develop a strong network of support throughout the year.
