Chamber golf outing is August 31

MARINETTE – The Marinette Menominee Area Chamber of Commerce has scheduled its annual golf outing for August 31 at Little River Country Club.

A 1 p.m. shot gun start is scheduled. Registration begins at 11:30 a.m. with lunch at 12:30 p.m.  The theme of the event is “Golf through the Years.” Golfers are encouraged to wear old-time golf garb.

The cost of participation is $350 per foursome. The fee includes lunch, greens fees, dinner, beverages, a raffle ticket, special awards and other golf-related items. The event includes games on the holes and several hole-in-one prizes.

Golfers are required to use a cart; rentals are available for $35 per cart.

The event, which typically attracts about 150 golfers, includes dinner and awards. People who wish to join the group for dinner may do so for $25 per person.

The golf outing is the chamber’s major fund raising event of the year.

“Proceeds from this event help us help local businesses in a variety of ways,” notes Mary Johns, chamber executive director.  “The business of the chamber is business and we try to use the profits from this event to help our businesses thrive.”

The chamber offers programs, events, classes and other opportunities for business people to learn and network.

“The golf outing is one day we kind of kick back and have fun,” says Joe Plautz, the chamber’s program manager who works with a committee led by Rick Yegge of Aerial to coordinate the golf outing.

How the golf outing helps members

Joining the outing as part of a foursome is only one way to network and promote your business.

We also invite members to include an advertising item in the golf outing goody bag. In the past, items have included pens, flashlights, magnets, clips, sunblock, first-aid supplies and other items that either relate to golf, being outdoors or your business. Coupons or gift certificates are also welcome.

We also invite you to become a hole sponsor for only $150. A sign at the hole will proclaim your sponsorship. We also invite you to come up with a special game for that hole, and even post a company representative at the hole. One enterprising member gave a way cookies in a plastic bag one year, along with her business card. Have fun with this one!

Provide a raffle prize. We sell raffle tickets at the outing. These can be items you sell or service, or advertising promotional items. In the past, raffle prizes have included caps, coolers, sports equipment, edible items, stadium blankets, picnic baskets and other items.

Provide a grand prize. These items have included new furniture, tickets to sporting events, resort or hotel stays and golf putters.

By becoming part of our annual golf outing, your company gets recognition, fun and a chance for promotion.
